build deck or pergola first
When i first put in my deck, i couldn’t help but feel like it was missing something. i wasn’t sure what it was at first, but one sunny saturday morning, as i was trying to enjoy the outdoors but getting sunburned, it occurred to me: i needed a covering. i decided that the best way to manage this would be to build a pergola over my deck. turns out, it was actually easier than i thought it. Most deck builders bolt pergola support posts to the frame of the deck using (2) 1/2" x 6" lag screws with washers per post. this technique is the same as attaching a rail post. pergolas are top heavy. without lateral bracing, they can sway in the wind and experience strong uplift forces as the pergola acts as a sail.. What is a pergola? a pergola is a basic yet practical garden structure that can serve multiple purposes. according to the dictionary, a garden pergola is defined as ‘an arch or a structure with a roof over which climbing plants can be grown’. an outdoor pergola can be a place to put your outdoor setting to ensure it is undercover, or it can simply be a place that offers shade and privacy. build deck or pergola first
Build a vine-covered pergola in your backyard to shade a stone patio or wood deck using wood beams and lattice set on precast, classical-style columns. the dappled sunlight created by the overhead latticework creates a cool, relaxing environment perfect for backyard entertaining—like standing in the shade of a tree on a hot summer day.. This beautiful diy pergola has louvered sides and it is so unique. this one fits at the end of a deck but you could use the plan to create a free standing pergola if that is what you want. it is definitely not like all of the others, although it is just as easy to build as a traditional pergola. plans: flexfence. 13. repurposed door pergola.
